I’ve never been much of a coffee drinker, maybe it’s because making it home never seemed appealing and patronizing a corporate shop was even less. I drank coffee when it was offered, and didn’t when it wasn’t. I was living in riverside at the time, off of park and Stockton, when I woke up one morning for an early walk. I loved riverside because it felt less like Jacksonville in the sense it wasn’t so spread out and was friendly to pedestrians on sidewalks. To the water and then the park I went. I knew there was a coffee shop near by and with my cell phone still at home resting on the charger I wasn’t sure what time brew opened. I made my way over anyways, thinking I would read the operation hours and peek through the glass. Audrey swung the door open as if she knew I would be arriving right on time. Now I have to go in. I had heard rumors of the “hash brown Sammy” but unfortunately it was a weekday. I ordered a cold brew and whichever 2 breakfast tacos Audrey recommended. The shop was long and narrow, found my spot right across from the register. I remembered thinking how it didn’t seem like just another coffee shop. Audrey brought me my cold brew in a tall glass with the graphic “not bad” printed. Foam at the top resembling a freshly poured beer. It was fantastic. Not there what else to say besides go on a Friday Saturday and Sunday. Do yourself the favor. Get a fucking hash brown Sammy.
